INTENSIVES FOR THEATRICAL MINDFULNESS

It's Complicated
Creating Constructive containers for complex conversations
Monday, Apr 26, 2021
6pm - 8pm
Talking about injustice, race, identity, oppression, responsibility, etc. is messy, sticky, grueling, and imperfect at its best, and harmful at its worst, but is essential at its core. Maya Angelou says "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better do better." This 2 hour session is designed to share our experience as facilitators in these difficult conversations with any and everyone who is also on the arduous journey of doing better. We will share the tenants of a courageous conversation, how to establish safety in a space, how to reinforce that safety during the process, and how to be resources to each other as we journey on.

HOW TO BEGIN THE DESIGN PROCESS FOR ACTORS OF COLOR
SEPT 9 & 10 @5pm
From Hollywood to theatre, Black actresses have been vocal about the challenges they face when it comes to on set-stylists, wig supervisors, designers and theaters who don't know how to properly style, care for or adequately plan for their hair. As a classically trained Actress & Hair & Wig Designer, Nikiya Mathis has the unique experience of both worlds. In this workshop, she will address the lack of natural hair education that persists in hair design & work to fill in the communication gaps. She will coach Costume Designers, Wig Designers and Wig Supervisors on how to confidently begin the design process.
